Main Entry: Nederveen, Betty Jane
Main Entry: Southern Belle Now the Rogers' family matriarch, no one has ever filled the position with more grace or charm than Ms. Betty Jane Nederveen. She's a wonderfully personable lady that harkens to days gone by in the old South. When one thinks of the stereo-typical Southern Belle, she's it! Well, she recently visited us here in Florida, and was kind enough to bring along some of her homemade Banana Bread. Some of my most vivid childhood memories center around that Banana bread. So, loving it like I do, I intended to snooker her out of the recipe. Actually, she was going to give it to me freely, and I didn't have to snooker her at all. And, while I was beggin', I got her to give me several of her other recipes too. However, in a rather ironic twist of fate, we somehow allowed her to escape,... er,...uh,... return home without the coveted banana bread recipe. I'll get that one on our next visit. UPDATE -- I now have it!!! Anyway, as a tribute to this gracious and wonderful lady, I felt compelled to share them, and some other Rogers' family recipes, with the rest of the world to try. Hope y'all enjoy them as much as we do. One quick note on convention: I know that the modern convention for tablespoon is Tbsp. However, I use Tsp. and tsp. for tablespoon and teaspoon respectively. That's as I learned them many years ago. I'm trying to change, but old habits die hard. I still use two spaces after punctuation too. Anyway, if you need a quick cooking weights and measures page (I know I do), there's one here. |
